Galen and Linda Bird travel the country sharing their story to help men learn about solutions to ED and incontinence. In their first post, Galen and Linda talked a little about insurance and intimacy. Now Galen shares what led him to seek out surgery to solve his ED and incontinence and how it changed his life. It’s a great little story and I don’t mind telling you I got a little choked up watching it. If your story sounds similar to Galen’s please know that you can get help. Here’s his story.
**Below is the transcript of the video**
I’m Galen Bird and I had a radical prostatectomy about nine and a half years ago. When that happened, it just completely changed my life. When I went into surgery, I was completely normal. I could play golf, play with the grandkids. I can do anything I wanted. Right after my surgery, I suffered from E.D. and incontinence, something I’ve never, never experienced before. I never had to take any Viagra or anything. I always functioned perfectly. So it was a complete shock to me to just like that connect with these conditions.
We kept going to our urologist and he kept telling us to try this and try that. The injections didn’t work. The pills didn’t work. The vacuum didn’t work. Everything we tried just completely failed for us. So I was actually going into depression and it was devastating to me. I got where I couldn’t play with grandkids, I couldn’t play golf. With the incontinence, I wound up just sitting in a chair and reading books and watching TV. Life is really getting tough on me.
About two years after I had my surgery, we just happen to come to a seminar down in Arkansas. It was in a room next door in a meeting we had and it was on E.D. and incontinence. So we went in and listened to the seminar and it actually completely changed our lives. Shortly after that, I went ahead and had the implant for E.D. and incontinence. I was scared to death because I’m actually a surgeon myself, I looked through these devices – that’s a lot of stuff they’re putting in my penis and around my urethra. So it was kind of scary. But as it turned out, it was life changing for us.
About three days after surgery, I was black and blue and fairly swollen. But after a few days, the swelling went down and I was back to my normal life. I had to wait six weeks to activate them. After six weeks, we were still a little nervous about having sex and I was a little bit nervous even about turning the incontinence sphincter on. But as it turned out, both of them worked perfectly for me and after that our lives were back to normal. It is completely amazing what it did for us.
I guess my message for anybody out there, if you’re suffering from E.D. or incontinence or some of the other conditions, go get help because there’s help for almost every condition. If anybody wants to call me – I’ve taken a couple of hundred calls from patients for the last two years. I pay for my own phone. I don’t charge a nickel for the calls. I’m always happy to help you. We’ll put the number on the website.
Thank you.
