We are very excited to have Galen and Linda Bird on Brokenhandle! When Galen was 63, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent prostate surgery to have the cancer removed. After the surgery, Galen suffered from erectile dysfunction (ED) and incontinence. Galen and Linda suffered with these complications until Galen received an artificial urinary sphincter and a inflatable penile prosthesis. Now they travel the country sharing their story to let others know that there are solutions for incontinence and ED. In this short segment, Galen and Linda answer two questions they hear frequently: did your insurance cover the cost of your artificial urinary sphincter and inflatable penile prosthesis; and how does the IPP feel?

**Galen:** We do a lot of community health talks to educate the public. I suffered from E.D. and severe incontinence after my prostate surgery. So our goal now is to help as many people as we can.
**Linda:** One of the most common questions we’re asked is insurance. Galen, do want to tell them about the insurance?
**Galen:** Yes. All insurance companies cover incontinence and most of them cover the erectile dysfunction. I had both implants at the same time for the penile implant and the urinary sphincter, and I got a bill with my supplement for about $30.
Another question we get is on sensitivity. I have the same feeling. The nerves are on the outside of the penis. I had the exact same feeling, same orgasms. I don’t ejaculate since I don’t have a prostate. But how does it feel for you, Linda?
**Linda:** Oh, that penile implant is wonderful! It just totally changes your relationship. You’re back to the way you were and the sensation is the same to me. I can’t tell during intercourse that he’s any different than before he had his prostate surgery. The only big difference is that once he has his orgasm, he stays erect. The ladies can have an orgasm as many times as they want to. It’s great.
